The government is looking to form a cyber-command system in October as part of efforts to enhance the country’s digital warfare features, according to Jirayu Huangsap, official for Defence Minister Sutin Klungsang.
Gen Songwit Noonphakdi, commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTARF), was assigned to make the product during a Defence Council meet chaired by Mr Sutin last month, Mr Jirayu said.
The meeting discussed emerging risks from the use of modern engineering against security companies worldwide and how to increase the country’s military against cyber-attacks, he said.
He said the RTARF’s cyber-command device is expected to get set up in October, and state agencies under the three armed forces may offer assistance.
The army’s digital and modern technology units will be restructured while an electronic warfare section will get added to the military’s computer heart, he said.
The air pressure will see its digital heart transferred to the agency’s Department of Information Technology and Communications, he said.
He said a cyber defence college will also be set up to create 300 to 500 experts per month.
The planned cyber command unit will be headed by a lieutenant general and filled by reallocated personnel from the RTARF’s Royal Development Projects and Security Coordination Centre ( RDPSCC).
After the reform, the new commander of the RDPSCC will be a significant general and the system may be transferred to the RTARF’s Armed Forces Development Command.
