Around 18 people have died and at least 10 have been hurt as a result of a lover at New Delhi Railway Station.
Thousands of people officially sat in the train station on Saturday nights as they attempted to board delayed carriages.
Four of the victims were babies, while 10 were people, according to a record released by authorities.
In a post on X, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that his ideas were” with all those who have lost their loved ones.”
Group crushes are frequently reported in India because overcrowding occurs frequently at religious events, festivals, and open spaces.
The incident comes weeks after 30 people were killed in a pre-dawn crush at the religious festival, Kumbh Mela, in northern India, where tens of millions of Hindus had gathered to bathe in sacred river waters on one of the holy days of the six-week event.
A “huge audience” of people were gathered at the station in Delhi, according to witnesses who had spoken to BBC Hindi from the state’s neighboring Uttar Pradesh state of Uttar Pradesh, to attend and leave the Kumbh Mela.
According to authorities, two carriages had been delayed at the place, while a next- heading to Prayagraj- was waiting to flee.
Ruby Devi claimed that because the audience was so large she was unable to enter the main train station in the American capital.
Umesh Giri, whose family Shilam Devi died in the love, said that the audience was “uncontrollable” as he tried to board the Prayagraj Express.
Dharmendra Singh, who was also travelling to Prayagraj, told India’s PTI media firm that there were “far more people than I have ever seen at this place”.
” In front of me, six or seven people were taken aside on stretchers.
KPS Malhotra, deputy commissioner of police ( railways ), said that authorities were investigating what led to the crush.
This occurred as a result of a pause in two carriages coming in and more folks gathering at the station, he said.
Opposition officials have criticised the authorities, accusing them of operational failure.
” Considering the large number of followers going to Prayagraj, better arrangements should have been made at the place,” Rahul Gandhi, the head of criticism in India’s legislature, posted on X.
