Bangkok is seeking assistance with Shantou, a province on the southeast coast of Guangdong, China, in four tasks, including a plan to create a special economic area to attract more buyers.

Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt revealed on Monday that the other three cooperation topics that were discussed during a delegation from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration ( BMA )’s visit to the Chinese city on Thursday through Sunday were cooperation on clean energy, traditional Chinese medicine, and industries with the potential to aid city development.

In discussions pertaining to a clean energy agreement, Shantou’s experience in producing wind power may tell Bangkok’s personal effort to acquire clean energy, said the governor.

The BMA delegation also traveled to the Huaneng Shantou Lemen ( II ) project, which uses up to 54 turbines to produce about 2, 000 kilowatts of electricity annually.

Bangkok and Shantou even have plans to work together on traditional Chinese medicine, where facilities and related educational establishments under the BMA’s authority can learn from and discuss their counterparts there, where the process of traditional Chinese medicine and modern medicine are also blended, he said.

As for the types of industries which will probably gain Bangkok’s economic growth, the government said, they will include the production of garments and products.

The BMA group also took a tour of Shantou’s modern city command center, where he observed how various digital platforms control city bike-sharing and give users access to real-time information about parking spaces in public buildings, he said.
