The Digital Economy and Society ( DES ) Ministry announced yesterday that the cell broadcast service ( CBS ) system, which enables emergency weather warnings to be sent across all devices connected to mobile networks within a specific target area, will be operational in the second quarter of next year.
Prior to its launch, Digital Economy Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong stated that the complete alert system will be tested in the first third.
Prior to the release of the instructions to people, the CBS will compile and analyze the data during the evaluation phase.
Disaster warnings can be sent to all products connected to mobile networks within a certain location thanks to battery spread systems.
The system allows for quick and effective communication of disaster information throughout an entire area because it does not need telephone numbers to send messages, similar to how SMS messages are distributed.
Mobile users do not need to obtain an application.
A group of organizations that are involved in the alert program, including the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation ( DDPM), the Office of the National Water Resource, the Thai Meteorological Department ( TMD), the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission ( NBTC ), the Government Public Relations Department ( PRD), as well as mobile phone network providers, was presided over by Mr. Prasert yesterday.
After severe storms in the middle North drew its emergency alert system into question, the DES Ministry has been jolted into motion.
