NDP 2024 to mark 40 years of total defence with warfighting demonstration between the Padang and Marina Bay

SINGAPORE: This year’s National Day Parade ( NDP ) will feature a warfighting demonstration between the Padang and Marina Bay to commemorate 40 years of total defence, Singapore’s national defence concept. &nbsp,

The NDP executive committee announced on Thursday ( May 23 ) that the inaugural segment will show how the government and the community respond to various circumstances, including civil emergencies and disruptions.

NDP 2024 may also have a first-ever Onward March at the Padang, where moving troops will move onto the observer stand.

The council said in a media release that viewers can also anticipate an interactive 360-degree experience with increased multimedia and fireworks effects.

The NDP will continue to feature crowd favorites like the Red Lions, the state flag flypast, and the national gun salute, which will be broadcast live on television and online. &nbsp,

Last week’s National Day parade was likewise held at the Padang, the first time since 2020. The Padang was the place for Singapore’s first NDP in 1966. It has also hosted the NDP in decades with breakthrough events, quite as SG50 in 2015 and Singapore’s anniversary in 2019.

The Promontory@Marina Bay on August 9 and five homeland locations on August 10 will be the focus of this year’s NDP celebrations.

There will be one more National Education display, bringing the total to four, to support the&nbsp, Secondary 3 students who were unable to find the National Education show&nbsp, when they were in Key 5 due to&nbsp, COVID- 19 restrictions.

The National Education Show will also be held in 2025 for those who will remain in Secondary 3 the following month.
