National University Health System to get new chairman

The Ministry of Health ( MOH) announced on Thursday ( Dec. 26 ) that Mr. Tan Chong Meng will succeed Mr. Hsieh Fu Hua as chairman of the National University Health System ( NUHS) as chairman.

Mr. Tan serves as deputy president of the NUHS Board since 2022 and is the chairman of JTC Corporation.

His expression as president did run from&nbsp, Jan 1, 2025, to Dec 31, 2027.

National University Hospital, Alexandra Hospital, and polyclinics are among the three common care regions in Singapore, which run the NUHS.

Mr. Tan is a capable business chief with extensive expertise in strategy and management across a variety of public and private sector positions, including as the group’s chief executive officer of PSA International and the latest board director of Temasek Holdings, according to MOH in a press release.

As president of NUHS, Mr. Tan will provide the cluster with proper direction and guidance as NUHS continues to evolve its health system, pedagogy, and workforce to advance scientific excellence through research and innovation, and to provide safe and high-quality care for patients while ensuring long-term sustainability.

Mr Tan was co-chair of the Emerging Stronger Task Force, a committee set up by the state during the COVID-19 crisis to link Singapore’s treatment.

He was also conferred the National&nbsp, Meritorious Service Medal ( COVID-19 ) in 2022 and received the&nbsp, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Medal of Commendation ( Gold ) in 2023.

Mr. Tan will also play a crucial role in leading NUHS through important infrastructure projects, including the redevelopment of the Alexandra Hospital ( AH) campus and National University Hospital ( NUH) campus, said MOH.

” DEDICATION TO ADVANCING HEALTHCARE”

The department thanked Mr. Hsieh for his contributions to NUHS, where he has been president since 2019.

” During his time as president of NUHS, Mr Hsieh led the grouping from strength to strength to rise from the COVID-19 crisis as a leading medical and educational system in Singapore, with distinctive achievements in enhancing business management, attention transformation, innovation and talent development”, said MOH.

He actively engaged with clinical and administrative leaders in all NUHS-related medical facilities in support of staff psychological well-being and happiness.

During his career, Mr. Hsieh oversaw significant changes at NUHS, including the acquisition of the JurongHealth organizations Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Jurong Community Hospital.

During his career, the NUHS Infrastructure Development Master Plan was created, and it is a crucial restoration project that aims to improve healthcare facilities and services while enhancing the individual experience and boosting capacity across the NUHS scientific health system and its entities.

The National University Hospital is scheduled to start renovating in 2025, and Alexandra Hospital held its breakthrough meeting in May 2024.

” Mr Hsieh’s tenure as president is marked by his commitment to advancing medical technology and collaboration”, said NUHS in a discharge on Thursday.

His clearness of perspective has guided NUHS to important milestones. Importantly, Mr. Hsieh’s command during the COVID-19 pandemic established NUHS as a pioneer in providing care outside of the hospital’s walls and through other transformative initiatives.
