National Day: At least four drones shot down around Dataran Merdeka, say cops

KUALA LUMPUR: Police right here have brought down at least four drones that were flown illegally during the National Day time 2022 celebrations in Dataran Merdeka on Wednesday (Aug 31).

Bukit Aman Air Operation (PGU) Drone Unit official Insp Muhammad Faiz Shahabudin said the particular drone owners will be investigated and activity will be taken against them.

“We’re here today to make sure that no private drones were flown across the event area.

“Any drones flown without a permit will be shot down and action taken against (their owners) with the Civil Aviation Specialist of Malaysia (CAAM), ” he informed The Star.

Insp Muhammad Faiz additional that four staff from the unit were stationed at the location where numerous dignitaries, including Their Majesties the King plus Queen, were going to the National Day parade.

On Monday (Aug 29), CAAM said the particular move to ban drones was to avoid any kind of untoward incidents that will involve public protection or increase the danger of accidents including Royal Malaysian Atmosphere Force aircraft flying in low formation in the area.

Themed “Keluarga Malaysia Teguh Bersama”, the National Day celebrations came back on ground at Dataran Merdeka after a two-year hiatus.
