After failing in two pertains to overturn his conviction by a Malaysian High Court two years prior, Najb, who served as Malaysia’s premier for nine years until May 2018 and its first PM to remain imprisoned, started serving his prison expression in August 2022.
The mercy he obtained in the middle of January did not appeal to regular Internationals.  ,
Najib was given a chance to win a royal pardon after serving less than two years of his long sentence, and at the same time as he is still facing charges of different corruption related to the 1MDB scandal.
Public discussion, however, was subdued because of the country’s hard sedition laws.
However, the revelation that Malaysia’s most renowned prisoner could be placed on home arrest could raise serious questions about the transparent pardon system and stoke criticism that there are two sets of laws for convicted people in Malaysia.
Muhammad GOVERNMENT IN AWKWARD CORNER ,
Malaysia’s state only just formally consented to a new program called Licensed Prisoner Release that aims to ease prisoner traffic congestion and promote community correction.  ,
According to Home Minister Saifuddin last month, it may allow prisoners who have been sentenced to four years or less to spend indefinitely in prison. Additionally, captives who have severe illnesses or impairments, as well as those who are senior citizens or pregnant ladies, might be included in the program.
Mr. Saifuddin reportedly called the rumors that Najib may be allowed to spend time in jail “mischievous” at an Ipoh event.
In any case, Najib’s most recent legal challenge has forced the government of Anwar into a unpleasant situation.  ,  ,
Najib’s request for home arrest would be viewed as equivalent to challenging the legal monarchy’s unfettered function.
What’s more, it could also upset the delicate relations with the long- established United Malays National Organisation ( UMNO ), which is a crucial component in Mr Anwar’s coalition government.  ,
Najib continues to exert considerable influence in the group he led while he was Malaysia’s premier for nine years, and the government’s opposition to the home incarceration plan could stoke a protest in some UMNO parties against the Anwar management.
” At this point, Anwar’s location is that he is against the house arrest for Najib”, said one federal official, noting that the worldwide popularity of the state and the government’s justice system would soon be undermined.
