Myanmar migrant fatally stabbed by compatriot

A Myanmar migrant worker was arrested for fatally stabbing a fellow Myanmar worker to death in Bangkok’s Pratunam neighbourhood.

Thet Lin Oo was arrested by the police after he stabbed Phyu Mar Aung, 34, outside a shopping mall in the neighborhood located in Ratchathewi district yesterday. The victim was rushed to Phramongkutlao Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Superintendent of Phaya Thai Police, Pol Col Krissadaporn Jong-aksorn, said Thet Lin Oo and Phyu Mar Aung were employed by a local fruit vendor. The suspect admitted to the police that he stabbed the victim in a fit of rage, after the victim told their employer that he was lazy and addicted to his mobile phone.

In an unrelated story, a Norwegian man was found dead in his apartment in Bang Lamung district of Chon Buri late on Wednesday, according to local police.

The body of Paal Frode Aaberg, 58, was discovered by a female friend, Angkana Roswan, 40, who knocked on the man’s door several times but could not get an answer.

She asked a maid for a spare key, only to find the deceased lying in his blood on the bed, with a large slash wound to his neck.

Police said a 15cm knife was found beside the bed. There was no sign of a struggle.

Pol Lt Col Saijai Khamjulla, an investigator, said police have reviewed closed-circuit camera footage outside the room, but no one had been in or out of the room after the Norwegian national returned to the apartment, the night before his body was found.

Police suspected he might have committed suicide as Ms Angkhana said Aaberg had recently broken up with his partner.
