Myanmar earthquake: How the scale of loss is clearer one week on

More than 3, 000 people were killed by next year’s 7.7 scale disaster, Myanmar’s military dictatorship has said. Thousands more people are missing and the burden is expected to rise.

Firefighters are still unable to reach parts of the country devastated by the collapse.

As the BBC’s Nick Beake explains, the BBC has been reporting from inside Myanmar during the week, since the disaster struck, revealing widespread devastation.

Some individuals have been pulled out from the wreckage but many others have not been as wealthy.
