Myanmar armed group says 11 civilians killed in junta air strikes

BANGKOK: According to a spokeswoman for an ethnic minority armed group fighting the junta, Myanmar military air strikes in northern Shan state on Friday ( Sep 6 ) killed 11 civilians and injured 11 more.

The junta is battling a common military opposition to its coup in 2021, and its soldiers are accused of carrying out terrible atrocities and launching air and artillery attacks on civilian areas.

” They bombed at two areas in Namhkam” town on Friday around 1am local time ( 2.30am, Singapore time ), Lway Yay Oo of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army ( TNLA ) said.

11 people were killed and 11 were injured in the strikes, according to her, and a local social party’s department was also damaged.

The dead were five gentlemen, four women and two babies, she said.

Namhkam is located about 5 kilometers from the Yunnan province of China’s Yunnan state, where TNLA fighters have taken control of the town after months of fighting last year.

People were seen sifting through dust and carrying a young person who appeared to be hurt in photos posted on social media.

One picture showed some destroyed properties. That film was geolocated to a site in Namhkam by AFP reporters, who claimed it had never been posted online before.

A coup official was unavailable for comment for AFP.
