Muno housing rebuild gets going again

NARATHIWAT: After delays of more than a year, building on new homes for the victims of the fire storehouse disaster near the Muno marketplace in the Sungai Kolok district last year resumed yesterday.

The warehouse fire on July 29, 2023, killed 11 people and wounded 389. It even damaged 649 buildings and devastated three institutions, causing about 240 million ringgit in complete destruction.

More than a year after the tragedy, 15 local contractors are now working on rebuilding 76 homes that were completely destroyed by the blast, according to Peeranan Hattakijnikorn, a Disaster Prevention and Protection Officer of Muno Tambon Administration Office ( TAO ).

Of those, one is undergoing a property deed move, while the others had their arrangements completed, with each residence expected to be completed within four to five months, he said.

He claimed that the Disaster Relief Fund, which provides financial support to all victims and includes the funds needed to build their homes, changed in September of last year and that building had begun there.

” After the event, companies rushed to assist the afflicted villagers in re-building their damaged homes more quickly. But in the close, there was a problem with federal rules”, said a cause.

” Today, the problem is sorted out we can begin the design”, said the same source.

The owners of each home you pick their chosen style from a pre-set list, according to the Muno TAO. Of the new homes, 73 may include 1.5 floors, while the other three may be two-storey homes.

Due to some companies ‘ desire to reduce the requirements, Sungai Kolok’s district manager Anirut Bua-on reported that the government held a meeting with the home contractors yesterday to explain and clarify the guidelines and regulations.

The companies have already explained to the contractors that it is against the contract to reduce the specifications haphazardly because it will harm the house’s general structure. The architect and the Mono TAO must approve any adjustments. If violated, it will be considered a violence, he said.

He made the point that the companies must maintain the work for a year.

A company is required to carry out maintenance in accordance with the contract if a buyer discovers any defects or harm.
