Mumbai issues guidelines to construction industry amid worsening air quality

According to a government announcement on Wednesday( Oct 25 ), Mumbai, the financial center of India, has ordered construction sites to use barricades and outlawed the burning of trash in public areas in an effort to combat the worsening air quality.

The decision was made two days after Mumbai was ranked as the second-most polluted city in the world by the Swiss air quality index( AQI ) on Monday, second only to Beijing in China. A score between 151 and 200 is considered” unhealthy ,” while a score under 100 qualifies as” healthily.”

Construction sites in Mumbai were asked to erect barricades at building sites up to 10.67 meters using tin or metal sheets or tarpaulin as part of the guidelines released on Wednesday by Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corp ( BMC ).

The BMC added that it would keep an eye on the air pollutants produced by state-owned manufacturers like Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum, as well as personally held Tata Power, all of which have facilities in Mumbai.

According to India’s Central Pollution Control Board( CPCB ), Mumbai recorded an AQI of 157 on Wednesday and gave it a rating of” moderate.”

New Delhi, which IQAir has consistently named the world’s most polluted capital, had an AQI of 243 and was given a” poor” rating by the CPCB.

The Cricket World Cup is currently being held in Mumbai and New Delhi. Cricketers have raised the issue, even though the game has so far remained untouched by the pervasive pollution.

Joe Root of England told British media on Monday, a day after his team’s 229-run loss to South Africa and in & nbsp, Mumbai,” I’ve played in hotter conditions and probably more humid conditions, but it just felt like you couldn’t get your breath.”

In India, where the money is covered in a thick layer of haze every winter due to the cold, heavy air that traps vehicle emissions, smoke, and dust, some of its residents have trouble breathing.

However, this is a relatively recent occurrence for Mumbai’s southern city. On at least one evening in December of last year, Mumbai recorded heat value that was worse than that of New Delhi.
