Move Forward MP gets 2 years on lese majeste charge

Move Forward Party MP Chonthicha Jangrew was sentenced to two years in prison by the Thanyaburi Provincial Court for royal slander under Part 112 of the Criminal Code.

The judge’s ruling, read out on Monday night, handed her a three- time word, but finally reduced it to two years with no suspension.

Another cost of breaking the crisis decree regarding public gatherings was dropped, the court claimed.

On September 11, 2021, she and nine different activists staged a protest in Pathum Thani’s Thanyaburi city demanding the release of social prisoners.

According to Thai Lawyers for Human Rights, Ms. Chonthich soon requested and received a release on bail to combat the situation in the Appeal Court.

Throughout the court fight, she maintains her MP reputation.

Before stepping into the courtroom, Move Forward head Chaithawat Tulathon said he hoped the court may grant her parole if she was found guilty.

One of the three main opposition party’s MPs facing der majeste charges is Ms. Chonthicha.

In connection with net comments she made between July 18 and August 9, 2021, Bangkok MP Rukchanok Srinork received a sentence in December 2023 for both laptop murder and unlawful imprisonment. She is currently free on parole while filing an appeal.

In connection with his actions as the WeVo troops head in the anti-government protests in 2020 and 2021, Bangkok MP Piyarat” Toto” Jongthep is accused of three counts under Section 112.
