Mother, daughter die in railway crossing collision

A family and her younger daughter were killed and a married couple were severely hurt on Sunday evening when a Sprinter train struck their car at a railroad crossing in this southern state.

Around 7 o’clock in the Tha Chang district’s tambon Tha Chang, the incident happened at a level cross on the road into Ban Bang Por.

Emergency firefighters reported finding the destroyed light Honda City, &nbsp, registered in Surat Thani, about four feet from the cross.

An injured pair was inside the car. They were identified as 34-year-old Withaya Panasee and her father Suchawadee Wisetkaeo. They were taken to Tha Chang Hospital.

About a inch from the vehicles there were the body of Aranya Pahamak, 52, and her nine-year-old child Supatthida Panasee, both from Tha Chang area.

The four people were reported by officers to be leaving a friend’s residence in tambon Tha Chang.

The railroad crossing has flashing warning signals, but no barriers. At the time, it was strongly raining. About half an hour after the coach left Surat Thani depot, a Sprinter struck the car, according to authorities.

After the incident, the coach resumed its trip about three hours later.
