Most southern Thais say Pheu Thai affected most by Tak Bai justice failure: poll

According to an opinion surveys, the majority of people in the deep southern believe that the Pheu Thai Party may lose the most if the accused in the Tak Bai murder case were not brought to justice, while the People’s Party would win the next general vote in the same way.

The National Institute of Development Administration conducted a ballot of the electorates in the southern regions of Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat to find out how political events are affected by the expiration of the 20-year statute of limitations in the Tak Bai situation. The comments were as follows:

• 55.20 % said the Pheu Thai Party

• 29.99 % believed that no political party would suffer as a result of the controversy.

• 4.69 % said the Prachachat Party &nbsp,

• 1.97 % said the Democrat Party

• 2.16 % said the Palang Pracharath Party, the People’s Party, the Bhumjaithai Party and the United Thai Nation Party ( also known as Ruam Thai Sang Chart )

• 5.99 % did n’t answer or were not interested

When questioned about the Justice Department’s decision to run for president in the upcoming general election, respondents were asked:” If the Justice Failure in the Tak Bai circumstance would change my vote.

• 39.55 % said not at all &nbsp,

• 25.21 % said definitely &nbsp, &nbsp,

• 23.62 % said moderately&nbsp, &nbsp,

• 11.62 % said slightly

The responses to which social group did they choose varied as follows:

• 50.14 % said they had but to find a suitable group

• 18.85 % People’s Party

• 13.68 % Prachachat Party &nbsp,

• 5.44 % Democrat Party

• 4.69 % Pheu Thai Party

• 2.62 % United Thai Nation Party&nbsp, &nbsp,

• 1.78 % Palang Pracharath Party and Bhumjaithai Party

• 0.65 % Chartthaipattana Party and other parties &nbsp,

• 0.37 % did n’t answer or were not interested

The poll was conducted on Nov 5-8 on 1, 067 individuals aged over 18 of several levels of education and activities. &nbsp,

On October 25, 2004, 1,500 native demonstrators gathered in front of Narathiwat’s Tak Bai area to obscenely demand the release of military participants who had been detained for allegedly handing weapon to rebels, while also reporting it to the government as arms fraud.

Security forces decided to disperse the crowd as the number of protesters increased, killing seven people on the spot and injuring 78 more as more than 1,300 people were thrown into military trucks heading for the Ingkhayutthaborihan Military Camp in Pattani’s Nong Chik area. The numerous deaths were attributed to strangulation.
