An assistant military spokeswoman announced on Sunday that more Thai men will deliberately enlist in the military this year than they did last year.
A total of 38, 160 men from across the country volunteered to serve in the army from April 1 through April 12 this year, according to Capt. Juthapat Prembanyat, which is an increase of 2, 543 individuals from the 35, 617 volunteers from the previous month.
Of the full, 24, 025 individuals enlisted deliberately at designated locations near their authorized houses, while remaining 14, 135 joined online.
The volunteer recruitment limit was entirely met at five recruitment venues: Chon Buri’s Koh Si Chang area, Songkhla’s Na Thawi area, Nakhon Pathom’s Bang Len district, Nonthaburi’s Pak Kret district and Bangkok’s Bang Khae district.
The army views the increase in the number of voluntary conscripts as a substantial success, according to Capt. Juthapat, who stated that the infantry supports the government’s and the defense agency’s plan to increase the number of conscripts in the voluntary program or transition to a voluntary enrollment system in the future.
