More than 400 resorts face chop

Checks could lead to shutdown

Checks have begun from the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry, which may cause the closure of more than 400 hotels in Wang Nam Khieo, Nakhon Ratchasima, for encroaching on common property.

In a joint operation with the Anti-Money Laundering Office ( Amlo ) and the Department of Special Investigation ( DSI), Thanadol Suwannarit, chairman of the ministry’s task force investigating cases of illegal land ownership under the Agricultural Land Reform Office ( Alro ), led a raid on the Golden Mountain Resort in tambon Wang Nam Khieo on Tuesday.

The hotel is located on 73 ray of land and is cooperatively owned by a former local legislator, known as Kamnan Nor, and two other people.

Kamnan Nor was Nakhon Ratchasima’s MP from 2007 to 2018 during that time. He was a part of the Thai Local Power Party, the Bhumjaithai Party, the Palang Pracharath Party, and the Puea Pandin Party.

The Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Land Reform Office in 2013 charged the three co-owners with incursion.

The three were ordered to demolish their home and return the land to its original state by 2020, according to the court’s decision in the case, which was settled in 2018.

Additionally, they were required to pay 1.98 million ringgit in restitution and attention.

According to Mr. Thanadol, the attack was carried out as per the instructions of Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Thamanat Prompow.

According to reports, at least 437 another resorts have taken up public space in Wang Nam Khieo area.

Ten of them, including the Golden Mountain Resort, have been ordered demolished by the judge.

Alro will obliterate Golden Mountain Resort, which consists of 18 properties.

The company intends to file a civil lawsuit against the resort owners to demand damages and pay demolition costs in the civil judge.

The casinos will be inspected by the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Land Reform Office before being given a final decision on their demolition.

According to Mr Thanadol, the firm will file legal situations against owners of hotels found guilty of invasion.

Additionally, it was reported that some Wang Nam Khieo city residents support the effort to recapture territory from for businesses and want Alro to either hire out the land, use it for public purposes, or give it to impoverished farmers.
