More students to qualify for CDAC bursaries after change in income ceiling to help needy families

SINGAPORE: More students from low-income families will be eligible starting next year as a result of the Chinese Development Assistance Council’s ( CDAC ) revised bursary income cap.

Those with gross monthly household incomes of S$ 4,800 ( US$ 3,600 ) or less may apply beginning in January, up from the current S$ 2,400. According to CDAC in a media release on Sunday ( Dec 3 ), the gross per capita income cap of S$ 800&nbsp will also increase to S$ 1,400.

The CDAC, Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations Bursary for primary and secondary school individuals, as well as the Andnbsp, Youth Empowerment &amp, Aspiration Programme Grant for post-secondary school pupils, are both subject to the new money factor.

Bursary consumers from primary and secondary schools will receive S$ 300 and S$ 480, both, while post-secondary school grant recipients will be given S$ 720.

The CDAC, which last updated its earnings standards in 2020, stated that it was necessary to review the income ceiling in order to meet the needs of low-income families.

To run its programs and support programs, it has set aside S$ 38.69 million in its 2024 budget, which is about 10 % more than the S$ 35.07 million it had planned to spend this year.

The organization anticipates that more applications for the grant will be received after the change, and about 17, 000 households will benefit from its support programs in 2019.
