The legislative panel reported that over the past year, it has gradually developed policies to improve support for buskers.
It added 17 new musical areas, including dedicated MRT train locations for city performers with disabilities, as part of NAC’s collaboration with SMRT and ART: DIS Singapore.
Also, the government increased the duration of the musical Email of Endorsement for skilled buskers on the scheme from one to two years, which they can even renew without having to go through another audition.
Now, there are over 350 endorsed musical works, with boys making up more than half of them.
” When I first started, it was more of the elders applying for a musical force. But now, it’s very different … There are a lot of youths quite serious, yet kids under the age of 16 with their parents supporting them doing road performance”, Goh said.
” I see this progress as a very good thing, because when there’s younger individuals, it adds more ingenuity and tips”.
He continued,” Actors are getting more creative and the future looks bright,” despite Singapore’s still relatively young musical field.
” We are still in the early stages of how panhandlers can integrate technology into their displays,” he said. Many people are also experimenting with it at the moment. It will take day”, he said.
The association will celebrate its year next Wednesday ( Dec 31 ) with a celebratory showcase from 5pm to 11pm at 111 Somerset, featuring both seasoned and new buskers.
