According to their chairman, the Yellow and Pink rail systems ‘ operators will upgrade the guidewheels on each train to enhance its safety.

Surapong Laoha-unya, the CEO of BTS Group Holdings, stated on Thursday that his decision, in his capacity as the director of Eastern Bangkok Monorail Co ( EBM ) and Northern Bangkok Monorail ( NBM ), is intended to “reassure the public that both monorail lines are safe for both commuters and drivers below.”

He was referring to a January 2 event where a guidewheel from one of the rail trains serving the Golden Line slammed into a car along Theparak Road.

According to Mr. Surapong, EBM, the Golden Line’s operator, has thoroughly inspected Alstom Thailand, the company that built the train, and replaced all components necessary to ensure passenger safety.

In the event of a loss, Alstom will strengthen the guidewheels with a locking device to keep them in place. This will stop these incidents from occurring again.

The locking system will now be made of stainless steel to maintain strength, he said.

Before being introduced to the rest of the ship, one station on the Golden Line will first be tested for the locking mechanism. He predicted that tests will start at the end of the quarter.

The NBM may follow suit and install the reinforced guidewheels on Pink Line carriages once the process is determined to be safe, he said.

Along the collection, the EBM is increasing the number of health assessments. The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand and the Department of Rail Transport, according to Mr. Surapong, will supervise the investigations.
