Thailand has confirmed its first situation of monkeypox within the southern resort tropical isle of Phuket.
Department associated with Disease Control (DDC) director-general Opas Karnkawinpong said the contaminated person is a Nigerian man, 27, that travelled from his home country to the island.
Last week, the man said he had a fever, cough and sore throat. He also had rashes and lesions in his genital area that will had spread to parts of his body and face.
Health authorities initially suspected the person had monkeypox on Monday.
A PCR laboratory test from Thai Red Cross Emerging Infectious Diseases Medical Center found how the man had the particular monkeypox virus upon Tuesday. This was verified again by a DDC lab test on the same day.
The National Condition Control Committee concluded yesterday afternoon that it was Thailand’s first case of monkeypox.
Dr Opas urged people to not panic as the Planet Health Organization (WHO) has not yet declared monkeypox as a global emergency because the symptoms are not severe. The general public Health Ministry offers classified it as a communicable disease that is certainly under surveillance plus said it is ready to deal with the situation.
