Ministry plans bilateral cybercrime talks

To bolster efforts to crack down on cybercriminals, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society ( MDES ) will hold a joint meeting of Thai and Cambodian authorities.

Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong just presided over the fourth professional appointment of his government this year.

Important ministry officials, including deputy continuous secessors Nattapon Nattasoon and Piyanuch Wuttisorn, as well as heads of associated organizations, attended the event.

At a recent smart cabinet meeting in Nakhon Phanom county, Mr. Prasert claimed that Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra had given his department the task of implementing two crucial decisions.

First, he said, the government must lead the way in setting up the upcoming joint government retreat (JCR ) between Thailand and Cambodia in Sa Kaeo state by July.

This meeting will address PM2.5 pollution control and anti-drug measures, as well as developing joint strategies to combat cross-border website crime, particularly call center scams.

According to Mr. Prasert, the emphasis will also be placed on improving communication between telecommunication providers who legitimately contract telecoms signs and identifying those who might be engaged in illegal activities.

Second, ministries under the ministry will conduct research into the effects of the US’s tariff and tax policies, particularly how they affect digital economies and investment, and a digital services tax on over-the-top ( OTT ) platforms in an effort to lower tax liabilities for digital entrepreneurs and the general public.

Another congressional improvements were also discussed during the meeting.

Two emergency decrees, including the Emergency Decree on Measures for the Prevention and Suppression of Cybercrimes ( No. 2 ), are included. 2 ) and the Emergency Decree on Digital Asset Businesses ( No. 2 ), became effective on April 13. They appear in court on May 28.
