The Ministry of Digital, Economy and Society (DES) says most fake news complaints are related to government policy, followed by natural disasters and health products.
Ministry spokeswoman Noppawan Huajaiman said the Anti-Fake News Centre received a total of 5.33 million complaints from Oct 7–13.
However, according to the DES ministry website, despite the millions of complaints, only 347 messages were processed.
The ministry identified 151 fake news items, Ms Noppawan said. Most of the topics, or 65, were related to government agencies and government policies, such as the one concerning state welfare registration and the cancellation of some bus routes operated by the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, she said.
The second most popular, with 44 items, relates to health care products and services, such as supplements to clean fat in the intestines or a ban on instant noodles imported from Indonesia which were found with ethylene oxide, a pesticide that is not authorised for use in food, she said.
The third is related to natural disasters, with 34 topics, such as incoming water volumes from the Ping, Wang, Yom and Nan rivers that would reach Nakhon Sawan and Ubol Ratana Dam in Khon Kaen, she said.
The final one relates to the economy, with eight topics, such as Krungthai Bank offering a payday loan with a limit of up to 3 million baht and the Stock Exchange of Thailand opening stock trading for fuel assets with an initial investment of 1,000 baht, she said.
The ministry also found those four groups of fake news contain false information related to Covid-19, she said.
Before sharing, the public is urged to verify news topics on the Fake News Centre website (www.antifakenewscenter.com) or submit inquiries via its Line account to aid the general public, she said.
