Minister praises blitz on drugs

After 12 defendants were detained in three separate instances and 11.6 million meth tablets were seized, among other drugs, Justice Minister Pol Col Tawee Sodsong announced the success of opioid drug smuggling efforts in the Central area.

According to Pol Col Tawee, over 8.4 million cocaine medications just seized had come from the North, while the other 3.2 million were from the Northeast.

These medicines were shipped in quantities, according to Pol Col Tawee, who confirmed this on Friday.

Creative efforts are ongoing to mark 90 % of border areas to avoid drug trafficking, he said.

On Tuesday, five suspects were detained in the state of Ang Thong in the capital.

The analysis led to a substance storage facility in Ang Thong following a drug bust in Saraburi’s Phra Phutthabat region in November.

8.4 million heroin pills were discovered in black plastic bags filled with garlic in a late-night police raid on the warehouse on Tuesday night.

The defendants were nabbed while attempting to flee, and resources, including mobile devices and lorries fair over 1 million ringgit, were seized. The medicines that were sequestered were estimated to cost 160 million baht.

In a different situation, four suspects were detained on Wednesday in Lop Buri’s Muang area for their participation in a situation last month where the police seized 3.2 million cocaine pills from a crashed vehicle in Phatthana Nikhom area.

The research also led to the arrest of 3.2 million cocaine pills, three cars, five cellular phones and banks books.

In the second scenario, even on Wednesday, authorities intercepted two cars carrying 2.46 kilograms of diamond cocaine from the northwest, heading to Pathum Thani.

Three defendants, including one Burmese national, were arrested.

Since October, Provincial Police Region 1 officials have handled 9, 727 cocaine situations, arrested 9, 797 offenders, and seized 35.1 million cocaine pills, 2.87 tonnes of crystal meth, 36kg of morphine and 273, 349 joy pills.
