Migrant smuggler already ‘tagged’ for previous offence

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: Twenty-four unlawful migrants from Myanmar seeking jobs in Thailand and their own two drivers were arrested in Muang district, with among the drivers found to become already wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet from a previous offence.

Border patrol police intercepted stopped an Isuzu D-max and a Proton sedan with Bangkok licence plates at Huai Yai intersection in tambon Khlong Wan on Thursday.

The two automobiles were found to become carrying 24 unlawful migrants from Myanmar. Both drivers and their passengers were arrested, Pol Maj Thawee Phanoi, leader of the Border Patrol Police Company 146, said on Fri.

The particular arresting team found one of the drivers had been fitted with an digital bracelet on his still left ankle.   He had been arrested upon charges of smuggling illegal migrants in July this year, launched on bail and made to wear an electronic tag.

During questioning, the particular migrants said that they had paid 30, 500 baht each in order to brokers for job opportunities in Thailand.    

The migrants and the two smugglers were handed over to Khlong Wan police train station for legal process. The migrants can eventually be repatriated.
