SURAT THANI: A man and wife were arrested after 701,400 methamphetatime pills were found in their pickup truck at a checkpoint in Phun Phin district early on Wednesday.
Pol Maj Gen Saranyu Chamnanrat, the provincial police chief, said the Ratchaburi-registered blue Toyota was stopped for a search about 2am on the south-bound side of Highway 41 at Moo 3 village in tamboon Nong Sai.
Kochaphan Sarapong, 33, the woman passenger, tried to divert police attention, handing them two bags of 400 meth pills and showing them five other bags of 1,000 meth pills in the front compartment. She said the meth had been bought by her husband Payungyut Suklai, 33, the driver, for his own use as a truck driver.
She said the sacks loaded on the back of the pickup contained chicken manure. A check found this was not entirely true. There were 70 bags containing 700,000 meth pills under the sacks of chicken droppings.
The couple allegedly confessed they picked up the meth pills in Ratchaburi and were delivering them to Lan Saka district, Nakhon Si Thammarat.
