Elise Mertens won the Singapore Tennis Open on Sunday ( Feb 2 ), beating second-seeded Ann Li in straight sets, her first WTA title in 17 months.
McCartney Kessler defeated Mertens 6-1, 6-4, in the Hobart International last last quarter, but the 29-year-old was in excellent shape at the Kallang Tennis Centre.
Li didn’t lose a collection during her last move, but Mertens and Li struggled earlier in the fit to get the opening set, earning three service breaks.
The American found her hole on her own assist in her first services activity of the second collection, but she dug deep to tear Mertens for the first time in the following game.
But, while serving to stay in the match at 5-4 over, Li made a pair of unforced errors to hand the subject to the French after an hour and 22 minutes.
Mertens was delighted to win her seventh WTA Tour singles name, her first since the Monastir Open in Tunisia in October 2023.
” It’s a really good title at the start of the time, especially given that Hobart didn’t hold it the name until three weeks ago. I was quite hopeful to win this one,” said the 32-year-old world range.
” I took benefits of this and felt very comfortable on this area and very pleasant in Singapore this year, and it gave me a lot of great power.”
Next seeds Desirae Krawczyk of the United States and Giuliana Olmos of Mexico won the doubles final after falling 7-5, 6-0 to the third-seeded Chinese piece Wang Xinyu and Zheng Saisai.
