SINGAPORE: From September 25 to December 13, repairs will be made to the principal Merlion statue in Merrion Park in the Marina Bay area.
The statue will be covered in scaffolding during this time and won’t be accessible for photo-taking, according to the Singapore Tourism Board( STB ) on Friday( Sep 22 ).
The consumer is also welcome to take pictures with the Merlion Park’s near cub statue, STB added.
” The functions and barricades may cause some pain during this period, so we seek the media’s understanding.”
The Merlion monument received repair work from July 27 to July 28 of this year. These statue-related repairs or inspections typically take a few days.
Local carpenter Lim Nang Seng erected the Merlion monument, which features a lion’s head and the body of an animal.
On September 15, 1972, at the lips of the Singapore River, it was unveiled by then-prime minister Lee Kuan Yew.
The statue was no longer plainly visible from the shore after the Esplanade Bridge was finished in 1997. As a result, it was moved to Merlion Park, which faces Marina Bay and is located in front of the Fullerton Hotel, in 2002.
The memorial turned 50 the previous month.
