Meghan, Duchess of Sussex returned with the second show of her “ Archetypes ” podcast immediately, this time featuring a discussion with Mariah Carey .
The two women discussed their biracial identities.
Carey opened up to Meghan about shifting often as a young female and feeling captured between the Black and White sides of town.
“I didn’t fit in anywhere at all, ” Carey said.
Meghan referenced an interview she had read in which actress Halle Berry acquired noted that since she was darker in color, she was treated like a Black woman, less a biracial girl.
“And I think for us, it’s very different mainly because we’re light-skinned, ” Meghan said. “You’re not treated as being a Black woman. You’re not treated as a White woman. You sort of fit in between. ”
Meghan told Carey that the girl only really began being treated just like a Black woman when she started relationship Prince Harry.
“I always thought it must be OK to say I am mixed, ” Carey said. “Like it should be OK to say that. But people would like you to choose. ”
Meghan’s chat with Carey is the second show of her Spotify podcast, which debuted last week with an job interview with Serena Williams . Next week’s show will feature comic and showrunner Mindy Kaling.
Following its debut, “Archetypes” leaped to the No . one spot on Spotify’s podcasting charts, beating out “The Joe Rogan Experience. ” The release comes two years after Spotify announced an exclusive deal with Archewell Audio , a good audio-first production company founded by Prince Harry and Meghan. Back in 2020, the 2 released a holiday podcasting on Spotify, their 1st podcast under the deal.
