Meet the K-pop concert interpreter in Singapore who’s impressed IU, Taeyeon and other acts

WHAT’S NEXT FOR APRIL KIM

These days, K-pop fans are n’t just hearing April Kim’s voice, they’re seeing her as well. Kim performed live backstage for the duration of BabyMonster’s primary Singapore fanmeeting in June as the program’s host and interpreter.

When asked if she thought her prior viral moments had played a part in this new job scope, Kim replied:” I feel like ( those incidents ) helped me get recognised as someone who has’ personality’. Speakers are not supposed to show very little character, I feel…That’s the main difference between emceeing and understanding. An translator is a ghost, an rapper gets the spotlight”.

She explained that the sensational events attracted attention from concert organizers because of her personality and professional abilities, which in turn led to her being asked to take on the new position.

Kim’s new fame has been “scary” but “it even feels like a dream”.

I feel like I’m living in a K-drama because I’m really glad that people recognize me and that artists pay me homage by calling me names and doing everything. But I feel ( a sense of ) duty towards this reputation, towards this love. It means ( people ) trust me that when I’m doing ( my roles ), it’s going to be fun…And I do n’t want to disappoint them. So I’m appreciative and feeling like I need to do much. So there’s a lot of force”.

For today, April Kim has a fresh purpose in view.

” I want to be able to perform interpretation in Mandarin as well as talk it well enough.”
