Mayor, public works director charged with demanding bribes

Both the director of the provincial social works department and the mayor of Pathum Thai’s Khlong Luang municipality have been accused of conspiring to demand and accept bribes.

Sathit Chamchalaem, 50, the director of the Public Works Division, was detained on Wednesday at the municipal office in the Khlong Luang district by police from the Counter Corruption Division( CCD ) and representatives from public sector anti-corruption commission. & nbsp,

While supposedly accepting pay money, Mr. Sathit was detained. According to CCD captain Pol Maj Gen Jaroonkiat Pankaew, who oversaw the attack, he was accused of colluding in accepting bribes and of misbehavior while in office.

The municipality’s 53-year-old president, Ekkapot Panyaem, was not in attendance. Later, when he reported to the police, the claims were read to him. & nbsp,

A man who had complained to the town and asked for permission for a land fill was the subject of the arrests. According to Pol Maj Gen Jaroonkiat, the governor reportedly demanded 50 ringgit per square meter for the 60, 000, and nbsp, cubic meters of soil that would be used in the fill, or a total of 3 million ba.

The man was concerned that if he declined to pay the pay, consequences may follow. He gave Mr. Sathit 500, 000 ringgit as an improvement and asked him to pay the remaining sum in installments.

Following the problem, CCD police launched an investigation that revealed corruption in both the governor and the director of public works. At the provincial practice on Wednesday, the two men reportedly demanded that the victim paid them an additional 500,000 baht. According to Pol Maj Gen Jaroonkiat, investigators obtained a jury subpoena to catch them.

While receiving the money, the chairman was detained. Additionally, the detaining officials took a revolver from him. Mr. Sathit denied all accusations during doubting.

The president was not present when the soldiers searched the provincial work. According to reports, Mr. Ekkapot visited the hospital where his family was about to give birth. He received a call.

Mr. Ekkapot arrived at the municipal office around 3.30 p.m. to connect with Pol Maj Gen Jaroonkiart and hear accusations of colluding in accepting bribes and misbehavior while in office.
