Mandatory hourly breaks for some outdoor workers when weather gets too hot: MOM

SINGAPORE: On Tuesday, October 24, the Ministry of Manpower ( MOM ) announced new regulations designed to safeguard outdoor workers from the dangers of heat stress.

A mandatory 10-minute break every hour for employees engaging in” heavy physical actions” when the temperature rises above a certain level is one of these enhanced measures that go into effect right away.

According to MOM, outside workers have less control over their work activities than the general populace and may experience more heat stress.

It continued by saying that employees in Singapore, particularly those who work outside, are at an increased chance of heat stress due to rising temperatures. & nbsp,

The new policies, on which MOM sought advice from the Ministry of Health’s Heat Stress Expert Panel, focus on four factors: acclimatization, alcohol, sleep, and tone. & nbsp,

All exterior workers must hydrate at least daily, and new employees must be given time to eventually adjust to outside work, according to MOM. & nbsp,

To release accumulated body temperature, these new employees must also regularly take sleep breaks in covered places, it was added. & nbsp,
