Man who verbally abused ICA officers, used another person’s passport gets jail and fine

SINGAPORE: A 28-year-old man who pleaded guilty to verbally abusing immigration officers&nbsp, and using a passport belonging to another person was on Friday ( Feb 21 ) sentenced to eight months and two weeks ‘ jail.

El Sayed Aladdin, an Australian, was also handed a fine of S$ 6, 500 ( US$ 4, 860 ) in default of 20 days ‘ imprisonment, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority ( ICA ) and the police said in a joint news release.

On Dec 14, Aladdin was stopped for inspections at Changi Airport. Knuckle brooms and twist knives were two items that were discovered in his bag by ICA officers.

” Aladdin was informed that the problem may be referred to the authorities for further research. Later, he became verbally aggressive and made insulting and demeaning remarks against the Classifier officers”, said the authorities.

The officers confiscated Aladdin’s card to stop him from leaving Singapore while his case was being looked into.

Aladdin attempted to leave Singapore on December 28 via Woodlands Checkpoint while using a card from someone else. He was detained by ICA agents and charged on December 30. &nbsp,

Use of a foreign travel file that has not been issued to the person is illegal and punishable by jail time for up to 10 times, a fine of up to S$ 10,000, or both.

The Protection from Harassment Act of 2014 forbids the use of demeaning terminology against a common servant and carries a prison term of up to 12 months, a fine of up to S$ 5, 000, or both.

The government, according to the authorities and the ICA, take serious action against those who impede public employees from carrying out their duties. &nbsp,

” We will take stern action against the violators and will not tolerate any kind of abusive behavior toward our officials,” they continued. Our soldiers stationed at the gates are performing their duties to protect Singapore’s borders. Travelers are urged to engage and follow their orders.
