After losing command of his car, a man drove into a traffic light pole in Singapore, and he then agreed to switch votes with his customer to let her bear the blame.
Yuen Zheng Wen, 36, entered a guilty plea on Tuesday ( Mar 25 ) to two counts of careless driving and obstructing justice.  ,
In September of this year, his rider, 31-year-old Chin Wei Yeeng, was charged with obstructing justice and giving misleading information to the police. Her situation is being heard differently, and it will be heard again on April 17.  ,
During a breakfast with his coworkers on February 16, 2024, Yuen consumed three to four cups of purple wine between 6 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.  ,
After breakfast, he made an offer to provide Chin a ride in his vehicle, which she accepted. He did, however, lose control of his car at around 10.35pm while attempting to make a move from Moulmein Road onto the Central Expressway.  ,
The vehicle then mounted the slope and veered into a prospects light pole as a result.
According to court documents, it cost S$ 991.57 ( US$ 741 ) to repair the damage to the traffic light pole.
Chin suggested that she take the blame for the incident and offered to switch chairs with Yuen, which he accepted and agreed to.  ,
When customers police arrived at the scene and interrogated them, Chin claimed to be the vehicle’s driver and that she had already consumed one glass of wine. The soldiers received the identical set of facts from Yuen.  ,
Due to this, merely a breath test was administered on Chin, which she failed. According to court documents, the traffic police officers did not analyze Yuen because they believed he wasn’t the vehicle.
After that, Chin was arrested for driving while Yuen was permitted to leave and was not taken in for probing.  ,
After being repulsed over the lie, Yuen attempted to turn himself in and finally admitted to the police that he was the vehicle’s driver on February 17, 2024, the day after the incident.  ,
Ryan Lim, the deputy public attorney, argued that the impact of the conspiracy to obstruct justice was significant and demanded a statement of between five and eight months in prison and a dismissal from driving for 24 months.  ,
The officers then neglected to do a breath analysis on the accused because the accused’s colleague claimed that she was the one driving the car, according to Mr. Lim in his distribution.  ,
Because of this, it was impossible to demonstrate in court that he was driving while over the permitted control. This was a real possibility given that the accused had consumed three or four glasses of wine before driving.
Devlin Mohyong, the defense attorney, pointed out that while Yuen was an criminal in this case, he did not take the effort to switch tickets.
Mr. Lim responded, saying that the accused person was the one who stood to gain.” While we accept that offence was hardly done out of monetary incentive. He remained silent while he allowed it to sing out, despite no initiating it.
The sentence for Yuen has been moved to April 17.  ,
