Man to be charged with cheating for allegedly overbilling Tampines Town Council on water pumps

A 58-year-old man will face two counts of cheating in court on Wednesday ( Mar 13 ) for allegedly deceiving Tampines Town Council into overpaying for the replacement of water pumps.

The man was a director of the city council’s then-current company for land pump upkeep projects between April 2016 and July 2017, according to the police report on Tuesday.

The man allegedly submitted 203 invoices to the town council in this time to pay more than S$ 380, 000 ( US$ 285, 456 ).

When, according to them, the payments were for the assembly of multi-stage water pumps when significantly less expensive, single-stage water pumps were used in place.

The person may face up to 10 years in prison and a great if found guilty of cheating.
