On the eve of China’s week-long National Day holiday, three people were killed and 15 others were hurt in a knife attack at a suburban supermarket in Shanghai on Monday ( Sep 30 ), the latest of a string of stabbing incidents in major Chinese cities this year.
The aggressor, a 37-year-old male surnamed Lin, has been detained, local authorities of Songjiang city said in a statement on Tuesday.
Following a specific economic dispute, Lin reportedly traveled to Shanghai to express his anger.
The knife attack occurred one evening before” Golden Week” of Chinese regional holidays, which was anticipated to be a record high.
Over the years, there have been more common stabbing incidents in China, with regulators frequently putting mental illness at the center of the blame. Children are frequently targeted at institutions.
A 10-year-old Chinese scholar was fatally stabbed by an assailant in Shenzhen, in southern China, in September.
Members of the Chinese community in China have expressed security concerns as a result of the event, along with a knife attack in Suzhou, a big city in northeast China, in June.
Slashing situations are unique in Shanghai but not exceptional.
A man stabbed 15 people at a major hospital in the Foreign economic hub in 2022, according to a man who had committed the attack.
The person, whom authorities said was “resentful of world” after an expense fell through, was sentenced to death a year later.
