Man gets jail for punching stranger, kicking TTSH nurse while drunk

SINGAPORE: A man was sentenced in order to seven weeks’ prison on Wednesday (Jul 27) for striking a stranger in the street and kicking a nurse at Suntan Tock Seng Medical center while drunk.

Adam William Fletcher, 40, pleaded guilty to 2 charges of under your own accord causing hurt in the incidents in June last year.

Fletcher knocked out the particular “blameless” 57-year-old unfamiliar person with a single punch and kicked the particular nurse while the lady was giving your pet medical attention, said Deputy Public Prosecutor Suntan Zhi Hao.

The court heard that Fletcher plus another man visited a bar upon East Coast Road, where he drank about five pints of beer, on Jun 25, 2021.

Later that night, both men visited an alley at the rear of the bar exactly where they got into an argument, during which Fletcher pushed his companion.

Their dispute was broken up by a passerby, and Fletcher strolled away from the street at about 10. 30pm.

Around this time, Fletcher noticed the 57-year-old victim walking along East Coastline Road. As the sufferer walked towards your pet, Fletcher suddenly thrown out his left arm and punched his head.

The man fell down instantly and lost awareness, hitting the back of his head against the ground. He regained consciousness a few minutes later with the help of others transferring by.

Fletcher fled from the picture, but the assault have been captured on video by a passerby. Law enforcement later found Fletcher behaving in a drunken and disorderly way along Mountbatten Road.

He had been taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital at about 1am on Jun 26, 2021. Medical personnel assessed him to be intoxicated and combative. He had abrasions on both knees.

At about 5am, the 2nd victim, a 40-year-old nurse, was on duty in the hospital’s crisis department. She has been holding onto Fletcher’s lower-leg so that the doctor can administer an intravenous drip to your pet.

Fletcher started reacting aggressively, striving violently and throwing his legs in the direction of the attending healthcare professionals. He also spouted vulgarities, asking healthcare staff to “get your… hands away from me”.

In this struggle, he kicked the second victim as soon as in her left upper chest and collarbone. She needed to stop her work because of pain and immediately went to seek advice from a doctor about the girl injuries.

VICTIM SUFFERED ANXIETY, POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS

The particular 57-year-old victim has been taken to the hospital with bleeding and tenderness at his mind. He felt disoriented and confused as a result of his head injuries.

He has been diagnosed with a concussion and given 3 days’ medical leave when he sought follow-up medical treatment the very next day.

He consequently experienced severe anxiousness and low disposition. He was evaluated to have severe stress and anxiety and post-traumatic tension from the assault, plus required counselling.

He was afterwards also found to have fractured his elbow in the assault. He sustained more than S$3, 800 in medical fees, for which Fletcher produced compensation.

The nurse was identified as having a contusion from her chest plus given three times of medical leave.

The prosecution wanted eight weeks’ jail, highlighting that the assaults were unprovoked. Fletcher was represented by lawyer Mr Sarindar Singh.

The punishment for voluntarily causing hurt is up to three years’ prison, a fine of up to S$5, 000 or both.
