A man was given a 22-week jail term on Monday ( January 13 ) for careless driving in a fatal collision with a motorcycle on the Bukit Timah Expressway ( BKE).
Ang Yixian, 42, even received a compulsory eight-year ban from driving, which may take effect when he is released from prison.
He admitted guilty to one count of driving without due regard for other road people, with a second similar demand being taken into account for punishment.
Three days after the accident, the 24-year-old gentleman who was riding the scooter died from brain injury.
The court was informed that Ang was driving his car along the third lane of the BKE on November 6, 2023, toward the Pan Island Expressway ( PIE ).
The victim and his rider horse were also riding a bike in the following lane, ahead of Ang’s car, and to the right.
Investigations revealed that the bike should have been in Ang’s full watch for at least three to four moments.
Ang filtered into the next street of the BKE straight from the third lane. He did no sign and was not paying right attention, the prosecutor said.
The sufferer and his rider horse both fell when his car and motorcycle collided. Sa even narrowly avoided hitting another bike.
After the crash, Ang stopped his car and called an ambulance.
The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital for disaster head procedure. Nevertheless, he died on the evening of Nov 9, 2023.
At the time of the crash, the weather was apparent, the surface of the road was dry, customers movement was mild and presence was apparent, the prosecutor said.
The prosecution argued that there was a protracted period of carelessness on Ang’s portion and demanded seven to eight months of imprisonment.
According to the attorney, Ang could have seen the bike and taken measures before filtering.
She added that because the crash happened on an expressway and Ang fought hard not to hit another motorcycle, the possible harm was high.
The army asked for four weeks ‘ prison, highlighting that while Ang was not paying right interest, he was not speeding, swerving or changing roads immediately.
The prosecutor noted that the “unfortunate injury” resulted in the loss of a life and that the phrase may send a clear message that for driving was unacceptable.
He added that he disagreed with the lawyer’s location on the aggravating factors and that the situation exhibited the fundamental characteristics of careless driving.
A sentence in prison of up to three years, a fine of up to S$ 10,000, or both are the penalties for thoughtless moving that leaves people dead.
