TOKYO: A court spokeswoman announced on Wednesday( Sept. 6) that a man accused of hurling an attempted murder charge against Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in April has been charged.
Ryuji Kimura, 24, is accused of throwing the incendiary device in Kishida’s direction at a promotion event in northern Japan.
After the assault, Kishida was uninjured, and Kimura was detained there.
Less than a year had passed since the assassination of former strategy chief Shinzo Abe on the campaign trail.
Kimura” was indicted” on Wednesday, according to a neighborhood court spokesperson in Wakayama.
During a police research conducted after the attack, suspected powder as well as pipe-like items and tools were discovered at Kimura’s house.
According to common journalist NHK, Kimura has not spoken since his collar.
Before being charged, Kimura apparently underwent a three-month medical examination.
Kimura had recently complained about the nation’s maximum time for running in elections in a case against the government.
