Man arrested for suspected armed robbery; allegedly strangled victim with electrical cord

SINGAPORE: A 28-year-old man was arrested just for allegedly robbing a lady in Kovan, whilst also reportedly strangling her with an electrical cord.

In a police online press release service on Friday (Aug 5), the police mentioned they were alerted to a case of equipped robbery at Richards Place on Jul thirty at about 8. 25pm.  

Primary investigations revealed that the man had apparently robbed the target by demanding she hand over her cash and valuables.  

The woman handed over a Rolex view, two diamond bands and a diamond bracelet “out of fear”, said the police.  

The believe, who was allegedly armed with a knife, acquired also reportedly strangled the victim by having an electrical cord.

Later, he apparently brought the victim to an automated teller machine at Hougang Street 21 plus demanded that she withdraws S$2, 000. The man also apparently demanded that the sufferer access her on the internet banking account from her mobile phone, and transferred S$50, 000 from the account.  

MAN ARRESTED ON AUG 5 

Through intensive follow-up investigations, officers from the Ang Mo Kio, Bedok and Clementi Police Divisions, plus officers from the Law enforcement Intelligence Department, established the identity from the man and caught him on Aug 5.

One rolex watch, a single diamond ring and money amounting to S$300 were recovered. The Commercial Affairs Division also recovered over S$47, 000 from your bank account that received the transfer from your victim’s account.  

Commander of Ang Mo Kio Division, Assistant Office of Police Zed Teo commended the officers involved in this operation for their swift response and recovery of the stolen items.

“The Police have zero tolerance towards those who use brazen acts associated with crime and violence and will spare no effort in making certain offenders are quickly apprehended and dealt with in accordance with the law, inch said AC Zed Teo.

The person will be charged on Saturday for an offence of armed thievery. The offence carries a jail term associated with between three to 14 years, with least 12 shots of the cane.
