KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry in Malaysia welcomes apps to conduct scientific trials on products containing cannabis remove for medical purposes as there are simply no such trials getting carried out at the moment, Deputy Health Minister Dr Noor Azmi said on Thursday (Jul 28)
Malaysia’s Harmful Drugs Act 1952, Poisons Act 1952 and the Sale of Medicines Act 1952 permit cannabis extract to become supplied, imported, marketed and used for medical purposes, analysis, or clinical tests, he said according to a parliamentary question.
Dr Azmi said that companies that have adequate technological proof of the effectiveness of items containing cannabis extract for medical reasons can submit an application to register the products to the Drug Control Authority of Malaysia.
Companies with medical cannabis products that have been approved abroad can also apply to have their products registered and advertised in Malaysia, he or she added.
“The MOH does not deny studies on the efficiency of medical marijuana, it is time we the actual steps of 40 countries that have tried it to treat diseases including cancer, depression, plus epilepsy, we are prepared to look at this, ” he or she said.
