Malaysia’s Election Commission says ready for GE15, cost estimated to be RM1 billion: Report

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Political election Commission (EC) said all of its state offices are ready to support the 15th general election (GE15) at any time parliament is dissolved.  

The commission’s chief Abdul Ghani Salleh told Malay daily Utusan Malaysia that will 21. 1 mil people are eligible to election if the election is known as soon.  

The election is expected to cost about RM1 billion (about US$224 million), this individual was quoted in the Aug 9 statement.

Mr Abdul Ghani added that election officials across the country possess undergone various schooling and intensive classes to learn about their particular respective roles, duties and responsibilities.

Effective Dec 15, 2021, the voting age in Malaysia has been lowered through 21 to 18, together with the implementation of automatic voter registration.  

The next general election is not due until 2023 yet talk of an early vote is rife, along with United Malays Nationwide Organisation (UMNO), which currently holds the top minister’s post, noticed pressing for the dissolution of parliament .
