Malaysian student arrested in Norway for alleged spying

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the arrest of a man in Oslo, Norway, following his alleged role in spying actions.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry stated in a statement on Tuesday( Sep 12 ) that the embassy is in close contact with Oslo’s local authorities to learn more about the case.

” The department will keep an eye on how this situation is progressing and will offer suitable diplomatic support if necessary.”

According to international media organizations, local authorities in Norway detained a 25-year-old Indonesian student on suspicion of espionage, which included unlawful listening through various technical devices.

The Scandinavian police intelligence service, or PST, claimed in the statement that the man tried to eavesdrop on the prime minister’s office, the defense government, and other federal buildings in Oslo.

PST informed the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation that the gentleman, who was detained on September 8, has been charged in court as a result of his involvement in espionage and intellect operations against the nation.
