Malaysia police submit probe into ex-PM Muhyiddin’s remarks on former king’s role in government formation to AGC

The Attorney-General’s Chambers has received information from the original Indonesian prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin regarding the formation of the present state for further investigation.

However, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said that 66 individuals have had their remarks taken as part of the studies.

” We have also recorded Muhyiddin’s speech, and he has answered all the questions. According to state news agency Bernama on Wednesday ( Aug 21 ), he was cited as saying that the investigation papers have also been submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.

Muhyiddin, who is currently the leader of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia ( Bersatu), earlier in the day, gave his speech to the police after being summoned over new remarks he made in Kelantan in the lead-up to a state congressional by-election there last week.

Muhyiddin was subject to a number of police reports, including those from the Pahang Palace, for allegedly questioning the role of Malaysia’s king in the formation of the government following the 15th General Election ( GE15 ) in November 2022.

Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who ruled the Pahang region at the time, resigned as king earlier this year as part of Malaysia’s special circular monarchy program.

According to The New Straits Times, there are currently 30 reports being filed against Muhyiddin, all of which involve investigations under Sections 4 ( 1 ) and 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act and Section 504 of the Penal Code.

Muhyiddin, who is also the leader of the opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional ( PN), questioned the formation of the current unity government following GE15 in a clip of his speech that was reportedly given on August 15.

In the clip, Muhyiddin stressed that he had the help of 115 politicians to form Malaysia’s future state. Since then, the film has gone viral.

Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, the former prime minister, was the subject of a police report led to him requesting action against him for comment he claimed he had incited distrust in the Malay royal organization.

Muhyiddin declared his nobility to the monarchy in a Facebook post on August 21 after being interrogated by the police and claimed in a Facebook post that he had” no purpose at all to attack” the Malaysian royal institution.

He wrote,” My devotion to the establishment of the constitutional monarch should not be challenged because I take refuge under the queen and splendor of the Malay monarchs.”

However, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil told local press that Muhyiddin’s position has put his party in poor lighting.

” I personally witnessed the previous prime minister’s discourse on TikTok live. If I’m not mistaken, the journalist is the PAS group network. So, blame PAS for the broadcasting of the speech on TikTok Live, if you want to blame any party, according to Mr. Fahmi, who was quoted by the Malay Mail as saying in reference to the Islamist Parti Islam Se-Malaysia ( PAS ).

Along with Muhyiddin’s Bersatu and Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia ( Gerakan ), PAS is a component party of PN.

Individually, Lawyers for Liberty, a non-governmental organization dedicated to individual rights and law reform, demanded that the government stop conducting an investigation into the former prime minister under the Sedition Act.

The ruler is a legal monarch, according to its director Zaid Malek, who stated on August 21 that” the exercise of a legal duty of power may be beyond discussion or criticism.”

According to Mr. Zaid,” The government and the Prime Minister should never condone Muhyiddin’s actions nor may they enable the use of the Sedition Act.”
