KANGAR: Malaysia, particularly the state of Perlis, should seize the opportunity to benefit from the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) mega project in Thailand, said the Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said it includes phase three of the Laem Chabang deep seaport expansion project and the construction of a new road section to link the U-tapao airport in Rayong.
“It is understood that Thailand will also focus on a high-speed rail line connecting the country with Laos and China as well as directly to several countries in Europe,” he said in a statement issued by Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) on Wednesday (Sept 21).
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said this during a stopover in Bangkok before returning home after leading the UniMAP Student Representative Council’s ‘Jelajah Ilmu’ (Knowledge Tour) delegation to Laos recently.
He said that as a neighbouring state, Perlis and UniMAP should look for opportunities to establish various collaborations with Thailand to improve the logistics hub, especially land transport.
Earlier, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who is also the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) president, presented an additional contribution of THB24,000 (RM3,000) from MAIPs’ Ibnu Sabil Fund to the Third Secretary of the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok, Nazrul Firzadh Yunus.
The donation is to assist Malaysians faced with emergencies, including those stranded due to unforeseen circumstances. – Bernama
