After Malaysia reported an increase in offensive content on social media platforms, authorities in Malaysia on Tuesday ( Apr 9 ) issued an order to tech giants Meta and TikTok to release plans to combat it online.
The Communications and Multimedia Commission and nationwide police said in a speech that the government reported more than 50, 000 cases of this nature to various social media platforms, including Meta’s Facebook and TikTok, in the first three months of this year alone.
They added that there were about 43, 000 situations for the entire year last year.
Officials said they were especially concerned about articles that had to do with race, religion, and aristocracy, despite no giving specific examples.
