Maid charged with rash act over death of 4-year-old girl run over by car in River Valley

SINGAPORE: An Indonesian maid was charged with causing severe hurt by a reckless act which resulted in&nbsp, a four-year-old lady being mortally run over by a vehicle in River Valley.

Lilyana Eva, 32, was charged in court on Wednesday ( Nov 6 ). On January 23, 2024, she is accused of committing the crime just before 5 p.m.

According to court documents, she had failed to secure Zara Mei Orlic’s health by bringing her to a cross the road along Institution Hill at an unsigned bridge without holding onto her.

The child ran across the road and was struck by a vehicle as a result. Later that evening, Zarag was taken to Singapore General Hospital where she passed away. &nbsp,

The vehicle driven by a 40-year-old American woman collided with Zara&nbsp, in the next lane and ran over her knee and mind.

She died of brain injury, a coroner’s jury found in July.

The traffic police discovered that Zara had just appeared in in-vehicle images for one minute prior to the collision and that the lady was not moving at a rapid speed during an investigation.

As Zara was merely 100cm high, she was very little to be seen by the driver.

Prosecutor Eddy Tham described the incident as a” horrible injury” in July, and it is” a proper warning to caretakers of young kids of the importance of road safety that they must often hold the hand of a young child when crossing the road.”

He claimed that young children are prone to make fast movements and do not have a strong sense of road accidents.

This case also demonstrates that young children’s smaller physical bodies can cause them to become obscured by other cars or near objects.

In October of this year, Lilyana began working for the Orlics.

On Wednesday, Lilyana said she wished to assign a solicitor, with the judge suggesting that she may qualify to the&nbsp, Criminal Legal Aid Scheme.

The investigation has been postponed until November 13.

A person who is found guilty of causing severe harm to another person by performing a quick deed may encounter a sentence in prison of up to four years, a fine of up to S$ 10,000, or both.
