PETALING JAYA: A businessman and an employment agency owner were arrested by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission payment (MACC) for apparently accepting bribes to assist employers or agents get quotas just for foreign workers.
This comes after eight were nabbed upon Wednesday (Aug 3), including a technology company chief executive officer.
According to a source, the two are aged between 30 and fifty and were arrested at 10pm and 12am at the MACC Putrajaya Headquarters.
“The businessman was investigated in relation to getting bribes amounting to more than RM1mil through an employment agent, as the other is suspected of paying bribes to a company offering a platform for foreign workers’ applications, ” the source revealed.
Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin has allowed each suspects to be remanded for three days starting Thursday (Aug 4) until Sunday (Aug 7) after the MACC applied for the remand order at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court today.
On Wednesday, the MACC arrested eight individuals; six were remanded for three days while two suspects, a male and a female, had been released on bail after their statements were recorded.
Meanwhile, MACC movie director of investigations Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim confirmed the remand and that the analysis was ongoing, incorporating that the case was being investigated under Section 16 (a) from the MACC Act yr.
It was reported that the anti-graft payment raided the company last month.
