Authorities in Macao have locked straight down several residential buildings as the world’s greatest gambling hub tries to contain a rising number of COVID-19 cases which have ground the city to some halt, apart from casinos which mostly stay open.
The former Portuguese nest reported 39 fresh attacks on Friday (Jun 24), bringing the complete for its current outbreak to 149, with around a dozen buildings locked down plus residents banned from leaving, the local federal government said in a declaration.
More than five, 000 people are in mandatory quarantine, the government said.
Macao, a Chinese special administrative region, is usually testing its greater than 600, 000 inhabitants for the coronavirus for the second time this week. Testing is due to finish on Friday.
A makeshift medical center, located next to Macao’s Las Vegas modelled Cotai Strip, is also likely to open on Friday.
Macao power down most of its town, including bars, movies, hair salons and outdoor parks on Thursday. Only takeaway is allowed from dining facilities.
